A detailed report on the activities of the “One Day Student Exchange Program between D.H.S.K College and USTM, Organized by the Department of Computer Science, USTM”
The Welcome Speech
Time: 10:00 to 10:10 A.M.
The welcome address was delivered by Dr. Bhairav Sharma, HoD of Computer Science USTM. He began his joyous speech by extending a warm greeting to everyone present. He then enlightened us about the establishment of the prestigious university. It was established in 2008 by Mr. Mahbubul Hoque, the Founder and Chancellor of USTM and Chairman of ERDF, Guwahati. He further discussed the day’s program by summarising each item in brief.
He then went on to discuss the numerous forums that the university provides, such as debate forums, quest forums, and sports forums. He proudly states that the university offers the necessary support to the students who are willing to participate in those forums on a national or international level. He then discussed the education policies of the university; which follow the NEP structure. He then thanked Mr. Harjinder Singh, HoD of Computer Science, DHSK College, for making this program successful.
Further, he introduced the faculty members of the Computer Science Department of USTM. Dr. Atowar Ul Islam, assistant professor. Dr. Kanak Chandra Bora, Associate Professor. Mr. Madarul Islam, Assistant Professor, Mr. Irfan Hussain, Assistant Professor. Mr. Chinmay Bharadwaj, Assistant Professor, and Mrs Sangeeta Borkakoty, Assistant Professor. He then concluded his delightful speech by welcoming us again.
Departmental Presentation of Department of Computer Science, USTM
Time: 10:10 to 10:20 AM
Mrs Sangeeta Borkakoty, Assistant Professor, USTM, gave the presentation. Before beginning the talk, she provided a brief introduction to herself. The Department of Computer Science is located in Block 'C', also known as the APJ Abdul Kalam Block. The Department of Computer Science was founded in 2012. The department offers three courses: BCA, MCA, and PhD. They hold departmental council and board meetings each year, and they adjust their educational framework in response to industry requirements.
She then introduces the faculty members once again; the department is made up of 11 faculty members and 1 guest faculty. The faculty members publish research papers together with their students. She then moves to the department's workshops that are held for the students to make them grow in their field.
Since 2022, the department has held international conferences every year. Students are encouraged to deliver their research papers alongside a mentor. Every semester, the department organizes field trips and engages students in social activities to encourage them to become more socially active. Then she tells us about the placements that their students received.
She continues with the robotics club associated with the physics department and their outstanding work. They were the 1st runner-up in the international robot war with 8 kg and 15 kg warbots at IIT Bombay. They're also the national champions. Then she proceeds to show the innovative final projects of their students.
With that, she concluded the enlightening presentation.
Technical Session by Dr. Atowar Ul Islam

The program was continued with a technical session conducted by Dr. Atowar UL Islam, Associate Professor, Department of Computer Science. The session focused on key concepts in Database Management Systems (DBMS), the Internet of Things (IoT), and Artificial Intelligence (AI), providing valuable insights into project initiation and the potential of these technologies.
Key Concepts Covered:
1. E-R Diagrams and Database Modelling: Dr. Atowar UL Islam commenced the session by elucidating the significance of Entity-Relationship (E-R) diagrams in database design. E-R diagrams serve as the foundational blueprint upon which databases are constructed, comprising entities, relationships, and attributes interconnected by lines. Students gained a comprehensive understanding of how E-R diagrams facilitate the modelling of data within databases.
2. Artificial Intelligence (AI): Into the realm of Artificial Intelligence, Dr. Atowar UL Islam defined AI as a technology enabling computers and machines to emulate human intelligence and problem-solving capabilities. Students were enlightened about the presence of AI in modern society and its scope within the field of computer science.
3. Internet of Things (IoT): Dr. Atowar UL Islam then explained the concept of the Internet of Things (IoT), outlining its advantages and disadvantages. Students gained insights into the transformative potential of IoT in revolutionizing various industries while also acknowledging the associated challenges and considerations.
The technical session conducted by Dr. Atowar UL Islam provided students with a profound understanding of key concepts in DBMS, AI, and IoT. Through comprehensive explanations and engaging discussions, students gained valuable insights into the practical applications and significance of these technologies in contemporary contexts. As Dr. Atowar UL Islam ended the session, the students carried with them a huge wealth of knowledge.
 
Felicitation Ceremony

• The felicitation ceremony was initiated by Dr Bhairab Sharma, HOD of Computer Science, USTM, by felicitating Mr. Harjinder Singh, HOD of Computer Science, DHSK College, with a Phulam Gamosa, a Memento, and a Diary.
• Ms. Sangeeta Borkakoty, Assistant Professor Dept. of Computer Science, USTM felicitated Mrs. Pinakshi Konwar, faculty, Dept. of Computer Science, DHSK College with a Phulam Gamosa, a Memento, and a Dairy.
• The ceremony was continued by a warm felicitation to Dr Bhairab Sharma, HOD Computer Science, USTM, by Ammiyo Paul student of BCA 4th semester DHSK College with a Phulam Gamosa and a Departmental Magazine.
• Ms Sangeeta Borkakoty, Assistant Professor Dept. of Computer Science, USTM was felicitated by Sudarshana Sharma, student of BCA 4th semester DHSK College with a Phulam Gamosa and a Departmental Magazine.
• Mehak Khan a student of BCA 4th semester DHSK College felicitated Dr Atowar Ul Islam, Assistant Professor Dept. of Computer Science, USTM by a Phulam Gamosa and a Departmental Magazine.
• Further a gift was presented by Mr Harjinder Singh, HOD of Computer Science, DHSK College to Dr. Bhairab Sharma, HOD of Computer Science, USTM.

Prayer by student and felicitation:
The occasion was graced by a Sanskrit prayer done by Khogen Gogoi of BCA 4th semester, DHSK college, which was later followed by felicitation of DHSK students by the faculty of USTM. Each student was given a gift which consisted of a coffee mug with the university’s picture printed on it, as a souvenir.
Video presentation of DHSK College:
The program was continued with a video presentation of DHSK College. The video showcased the various aspects of DHSK College. It was like a virtual tour of the college campus which consisted of showcasing the Campus, the various facilities available in the college as well as the Department of Computer Science.




Harjinder Singh, HoD, Department of Computer Science, D.H.S.K College Inspiring Speech At USTM
Time: 11:25 am-11:30 am
On a momentous occasion at the University of Science & Technology, Meghalaya (USTM), HOD Harjinder Singh of DHSK College, Dibrugarh, delivered an amazing speech that left a lasting impact on all present.
Harjinder Singh sir expressed his gratitude for being part of such a prestigious student exchange program. He emphasized the importance of practical knowledge alongside theoretical studies, highlighting the significance of programs like these in shaping well-rounded individuals. He showcased the exceptional achievements despite the challenges. With a modest number of teaching faculty and only 130 students, the department has consistently achieved outstanding results, a commendable 90% success rate. He attributed this success to the relentless efforts of the faculty and his vision for continuous improvement. HOD Harjinder Singh sir reveals about the add-on courses designed to enrich students' practical knowledge. Courses such as DTP, hardware and networking, and numerical ability & testing are tailored to equip students with skills essential for their future careers. Reflecting on his journey, he shared his connection to the BCA department. As one of the pioneering students in the 2008 BCA course at DHSK College. Despite transferring to Dibrugarh University, where he completed his MCA too, his passion for teaching eventually led him back to DHSK College in 2018. With only 24 students initially, he reopened the BCA department, which has now a total of 130 students.
In closing, He expressed heartfelt gratitude to the USTM team for providing him with the opportunity to bring his students to their esteemed institution. He shared that this opportunity fulfilled his goal as an HOD to give his students a glimpse into their future world.

Speech by Pinakshi Konwar
Time: 11:35 am
Pinakshi Konwar, Lecturer, Department of Computer Science, DHSK College, expresses gratitude to the USTM family for the opportunity to collaborate with their prestigious university. Addressing a gathering of computer science students, the speaker emphasizes their role as innovators and pioneers in the digital era. They highlight the vast potential of computer science to drive industry changes, reshape society, and address global challenges.
Computer science is portrayed as more than just coding; it involves creativity, problem-solving, and societal impact. The speech acknowledges the limitless possibilities within the field, spanning domains like software engineering, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence.
Advancements in AI and machine learning, particularly deep learning techniques, are noted for their transformative impact across various sectors. Similarly, ongoing research in cybersecurity is highlighted, focusing on encryption, threat detection, and security protocols to combat evolving cyber threats.
She underscores the importance of ethical considerations in technological advancements, urging students to prioritize inclusivity, equity, and societal welfare in their work. She concludes by encouraging students to stay focused, determined, and adaptable as they navigate their careers in computer science, reminding them that the future belongs to those who push boundaries and innovate.
Overall, the speech serves as an inspiring call to action for computer science students, reminding them of their potential to excel and make meaningful contributions to society through their work in the field.

A Presentation on Gamification In Education
Time: 11:45 am - 12:15 pm
The presentation on "Gamification in Education" was given by Aman Rajbongshi, Shreshtha Buragohain and Mehak Khan. It was about how gamification could be used to motivate students while keeping them engaged with their studies.
The presentation started with the introduction of all the members. This was then followed by Shreshtha Buragohain discussing the objectives of gamification in education which were to enhance the engagement of students, develop 21st-century skills, and track a student's progress for efficient learning
The section "What", was presented by Mehak Khan, she explained what gamification is, along with examples and how gamification can be used in real life. The current gamification market is estimated to be around 15 billion USD and is expected to grow to 48 billion USD by 2029. Applications like mimo, angry bird, jumble words etc. were used to describe how gamified elements help people learn while having fun. This was followed by how introduction of simple badges for various situations like attending all the classes (Consistency Badge), submitting assignments on time (On time Badge), being the least scorer of your class (Try Harder Badge), etc. will give the students the sense of appreciation, a sense of achievement and a sense of awareness. Hence, motivating them to be good students and keep learning and not feel burdened. This whole situation was named "Game Named School".
The next section "How" was presented by Aman Rajbongshi. He covered the goals and techniques in 3 aspects "Cognitive" which meant the implementation of game elements in real life to change the concept of learning, "Emotional" covering how the outcome or a result could affect one's emotions and how game frameworks can be used to direct these emotions in a positive way making the students more eager to learn and "Social" covered how gamification can be used to motivate the students to compete and learn together.
The section "Why bother" was presented by Shreshtha Buragohain. It covered the benefits and risks of gamification in education. She explained how achieving rewards could be initially motivating but in the long term, it can deviate students from the core objective which is learning and not collecting rewards or badges. It was also brought into highlight that too much graphics may also distract students instead of helping them to study.The next was Implementation in which points like sense of achievement, competition, collaboration, and Personalization were discussed. It was then followed by Future Scopes which discussed how gamification can be used to provide professional development and training, personalized learning paths, and gamified assessments. The presentation came to an end with a question asked by Dr. Atowa Ul Islam.
Workshop on Deep Learning by Mr. Harjinder Singh
Time: 01:00 pm – 02:00 pm
Mr. Harjinder Singh, the HoD of Computer Science at DHSK College, had the honor of leading a workshop for the USTM BCA and MCA students. The program, which took place from 1 to 2 PM, was carefully planned to explore the study of Deep Learning, a fundamental aspect of modern computing.
The course laid the foundation for deep learning by offering a thorough overview of machine learning. The complexities of neural networks, artificial neural networks (ANN), convolutional neural networks (CNN), and recurrent neural networks (RNN), were presented to the students.
As he demonstrated the practical applications of deep learning across multiple industries, Mr. Harjinder Singh's approach was notable for its accuracy. Students gained extensive knowledge about the cutting-edge potential of this technology, including topics such as picture identification and natural language processing.
Upon the conclusion of the workshop at 2:00 PM, the participants had acquired fresh perspectives and were inspired by his background. By the time they left, they understood Deep Learning better and in professional pursuits.
Exploring Educational Excellence:A Campus Visit to USTM Meghalaya

After having our lunch which was organized in a buffet system on the open stage of Dr. D.D Lapang Block, the students of DHSK College went for the campus visit nestled in the lush green landscapes of Meghalaya, the University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya (USTM). The University stands as a beacon of academic excellence in the North-Eastern region of India. With its commitment to fostering holistic development and nurturing future leaders, USTM attracts students from across the country. Recently, we had the opportunity to embark on a journey to explore this esteemed institution first-hand, and what we discovered left an indelible mark on our understanding of higher education in India.
The atmosphere at USTM was alive and full of intellectual energy as soon as we arrived on the expansive campus grounds. The campus emanated a sense of peace that was ideal for study and development, with its contemporary architecture perfectly harmonizing with Meghalaya's natural beauty. Modern facilities guaranteed a supportive atmosphere for academic endeavors, while lush gardens and well-kept paths encouraged exploration.
We were initially shown around the academic block, where we learned about the wide selection of subjects that USTM offers. With degrees ranging from engineering and technology to management, social sciences, and humanities, the institution provides a wide range of options to suit different interests and professional goals. With cutting-edge teaching strategies and a carefully crafted curriculum, students are guaranteed a comprehensive education that will enable them to succeed in their chosen industries.
As we interacted with faculty members and students alike, it became evident that USTM places a strong emphasis on research and innovation. The university boasts cutting-edge laboratories equipped with the latest tools and technologies, providing students with ample opportunities to engage in hands-on experimentation and exploration. Additionally, collaborations with industry partners and research institutions further enrich the academic experience, allowing students to gain real-world exposure and tackle complex challenges head-on.
Beyond academics, USTM is committed to nurturing the holistic development of its students. The campus buzzes with extracurricular activities ranging from cultural events and sports competitions to community service initiatives. These activities not only provide students with a platform to showcase their talents but also instill in them the values of teamwork, leadership, and social responsibility.
One aspect of USTM that particularly impressed us was its focus on inclusivity and diversity. With students hailing from different states, cultures, and backgrounds, the campus is a melting pot of ideas and perspectives. The university celebrates this diversity through various cultural festivals and events, fostering an environment of mutual respect and understanding among its student community.
As our visit drew to a close, we couldn't help but feel inspired by the vision and commitment of USTM towards shaping the future leaders of tomorrow. The university's relentless pursuit of excellence, coupled with its unwavering dedication to fostering innovation and inclusivity, sets a benchmark for educational institutions across the country.
In conclusion, our campus visit to USTM Meghalaya was nothing short of enlightening. From its picturesque surroundings to its world-class infrastructure and dynamic academic environment, the university left an indelible impression on us. As we bid farewell to this bastion of learning, we carry with us not just memories but also a renewed sense of optimism for the future of higher education in India.



Cultural Program
Time: 2:43pm to 3:15pm
To enhance the energy of the program the students of University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya and DHSK college, Dibrugarh arranged the cultural session. The cultural show began around at 2:43 pm with a song performed by an MCA student of USTM. The melodious song performed by him won many hearts. It was followed by a group dance performed by the BCA students of USTM. Four students from USTM performed an energetic dance performance and all the students enjoyed the performance. It was quite entertaining. After that, two students from USTM sang a beautiful song. It was truly melodious. After their performance, the students from our college performed a group cultural dance. Four of our students performed Assamese folk dance and everyone truly enjoyed and appreciated their performance. The cultural session was ended with an energetic dance performance performed by a student of USTM. The performance lifted the energy of the audiences and everyone enjoyed it. All the students and teachers present there really enjoyed all the performances and had a great time together.

Toward the end of the program, a vote of thanks was delivered by Ekta Singh Yadav of BCA 4th semester, DHSK College representing the Department of Computer Science to express gratitude to Mr. Bhairab Sharma, Mrs. Sangeeta Borkakoti and the respected faculty members of USTM as well as Mr. Harjinder Singh, Mrs. Pinakshi Konwar and all the members of the team D.H.S.K college for their cooperation and hard work which made this trip successful.
